It is often considered beneficial or even necessary for a cryptocurrency to have multiple node implementations. For Monero, an alternative implementation is currently in the works. We will discuss different approaches to this, each with their benefits and issues, and see what we can learn from the history of Bitcoin and Ethereum. From there, we will explore the challenges that are unique to privacy coins and the Monero situation and possibilities.
